Precise work with callipers
Always rely on measurement technology in your company that allows precise work. The calipers from Metav Werkzeuge GmbH are quality tools for professional work.
Act precisely and save time – avoid mistakes. Determine the inside and outside dimensions quickly and easily, or measure the depth of a borehole, for example, with the integrated depth gauge. The depth gauge rod is usually square, but can also be ordered as round. Vernier calipers - formerly also calipers - offer a variety of applications. A striking difference is that there are both digital and analog calipers. We offer you both the all-rounder of calipers and special calipers for special applications - always process your orders quickly, easily, precisely and with maximum efficiency with our measuring tools.
Different displays - how do the calipers differ
The question that the user should ask himself at the beginning is: how do I want to read my data. Vernier calipers offer four different readout methods:
The watch calipers are also referred to as calipers with a round scale. A precise reading of the measurement results is also achieved here. The measurement results can be viewed on the dial, which is based on a watch dial. Differential measurements can also be carried out without difficulty, using the locking screw on the calipers. The calipers can be zeroed in any position. Watch calipers have to be cleaned regularly due to their mechanical structure with rods and gears. Make sure that the caliper is free of dust and other contaminants - the measurement results could be falsified.
In addition to the watch calipers, analog, digital and above all calipers with data output offer the possibility to carry out measurements within specified tolerances and to monitor production through continuous quality assurance.
Vernier calipers are extremely accurate. The reading is done via a scale on the caliper. Nonius or analog calipers are known for their high level of robustness. They are very insensitive to water and splashing water. Dust and other contaminants usually cannot harm the vernier calipers. Due to the robust construction and simple structure, the analog calipers last a very long time - with good care.
Digital calipers are the measuring tools that are now sold the most in quality assurance. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that any software results in more measurement results and measurement options, and on the other hand, because IP protection also ensures that the digital caliper is protected against dirt and splash water. Digital calipers are no more accurate than their analogue counterparts. The digital display makes it easier to read, even to several decimal places. The calipers are easier to set to 0 in any position, and the calipers usually have a memory function. Depending on the model, the data can be transferred to a PC and processed there.
The supreme discipline of manual measurement technology are calipers with integrated data output and mini-computer. These are a further development of digital calipers. A microcomputer is integrated on the caliper. This results in countless possibilities for taking measured values and further processing the measurement results. In this way, deviations due to the ambient temperature can already be taken into account during the measurement. Specifications of the tolerance values show directly on the display whether the measured part is within or outside the specified tolerance. The corresponding measuring pressure can also be controlled via the software. For example, soft and hard materials can be measured with a single caliper, the measuring pressure is then always the same, so that you get repeatable measurement results.
The data transmission for calipers with integrated microcomputer is via cable or Bluetooth over a distance of up to 50 meters. Receivers are Windows computers (with a corresponding dongle), smartphones with Android or iOS operating systems. With software, the measurement results can also be processed quickly and cleanly here.
Find the right caliper for your workshop / quality control
Professional users who work with a caliper several times a day use workshop calipers according to DIN 862. To ensure that your caliper withstands tests, have it calibrated by a certified calibration laboratory. This ensures that you get a caliper that meets all standards.
However, the vernier caliper should always be exactly right for your application. If the workshop caliper is only used every few days, it is not absolutely necessary to use professional material.
Make sure that the environment always corresponds to the same conditions. 20°C is recommended as the reference temperature. The calipers should be free of dust and dirt. The measuring pressure that is exerted on the caliper or the workpiece is important. It should always be the same. However, vernier calipers with a measuring pressure control also help here.
