How to use the caliper correctly
Regardless of whether it is an analog or digital caliper, both have their advantages and disadvantages. Many people find it particularly difficult to read when they pick up a caliper with a movable length scale for the first time.
To measure the internal dimensions of objects or spaces, use the small internal measuring legs located on the top of the caliper. To do this, close the caliper, place the legs in the area or object to be measured, and then open them as wide as possible.
To measure the outside dimension of an object with a caliper, open the legs of the tool, place them over the object, and then bring them back together until they enclose the object.
When it comes to measuring holes such as bores, use the depth gauge of the caliper. To do this, pull the depth gauge out from the end of the caliper and press the main element of the caliper against the outside of the hole or gap to be measured. Then open the caliper until the depth gauge reaches the deepest point.
To use the step measurement, place the caliper flat on the upper step of the object to be measured with the legs open. Then open the caliper until the fixed leg reaches the lower step.
