AXI - Axial illumination
Coaxial illumination (AXI) is when the light is on the same axis of the optical path. When the light and optics are on the same path, this can help when viewing highly reflective objects. These light reflections are a common problem with conventional ring illuminators.
Dino-Lite's coaxial models have a built-in LED that shines onto a mirror. The mirror projects the light directly onto the subject so that the resulting image is fed directly back to the image sensor.
The most common application for coaxial illumination in the semiconductor industry is wafer quality control and inspection. With normal brightfield illumination, not all structures and overlays are visible, whereas with coaxial illumination these details become visible.
Application of Coaxial Lighting
